Dana is hard at work on a countertop, but he’s happy to answer any questions you might have about the countertop and cabinet installation process.
- Inspect the seams. Solid surface materials are designed to be seamed together with virtually invisible seams. With the exception of certain textures, colors, and high polish finishes, seams should be nearly invisible to the naked eye. Seams that are obvious or separated are unacceptable.
- Inspect the silicone. Many installations require the installer to apply matching silicone to seal seams and conceal minor irregularities. Silicone should be used discreetly and sparingly.
- Inspect the edge overhang. It should be consistent throughout the length of the counter.
- Inspect the fit. Solid surface counters are measured using a template. This insures that your counter will fit properly and will accommodate any imperfections in your walls, cabinets, or appliances.
A standard countertop is typically a solid or sanded color, is 25″ deep with a 3″ – 3 1/2″ set-on backsplash, a simple 1″ edge, and a top mount sink and/or cook top cutout. An upgraded countertop has additional customized designs and features which are only limited by your creativity and budget. Coved backsplashes, full-height backsplashes, extra-wide peninsulas, seamed-in and undermount sinks, inlays, and large edge profiles are all available for an additional charge. Upgraded solid surface countertops also can include drainboards routed into the countertop deck to allow water to drain more easily into the sink. Please understand that even though standard counters are substantially less expensive that upgraded counters, the same level of craftsmanship is applied during fabrication on both types of counters.
Solid surface countertops are delivered in either a Glossy or Matte finish. The finish on a laminate countertop is specific to the laminate color, so the laminate color you choose determines the surface finish.
Yes. We keep solid surface remnants as well as laminate countertop remnants and sheet laminate remnants. They are sold at a discounted price. Come into the shop anytime to see what we have available as it changes all the time.
That depends on the size of the project and what work is involved. If you will be keeping your existing cabinets, we can typically tear out your old countertops and install the new ones all in one day. If we are also installing new cabinets for your project, please plan for more time. We pattern for your countertops off of your cabinets to ensure the best possible fit. Laminate countertops can typically be built within a few days, while a standard size solid surface kitchen takes 7-10 days to fabricate. We realize what an inconvenience it is to be without your kitchen or bathroom for any length of time and do everything we can to keep that time as short as possible. However, we will not take short cuts in fabricating your new countertops and it does take time to turn out a high quality product.
